Austin is home to great football and food that is just as great. When visiting Austin for game day, you have to make sure you get out on Friday night before the game and check out he music and bar scene on the legendary 6th St. You also have to have two things that Austin is famous for, tex mex and BBQ. Lets start with the BBQ.
Both of these options are a little outside Austin, but are definitely worth the trip. If you are a serious BBQ guy you have to take drive outside Austin to Lockhart, TX. Here you will find some of the best BBQ in the whole state of Texas. This town is all about its BBQ. It is home to 4 large and historic BBQ joints. The Texas Legislature designated this town as the BBQ capital of Texas. I went to Black’s BBQ and it was delicious.
The other place that I would check out is just a little bit outside of Austin as well. With its BYOB policy outdoor and indoor seating and the ability to feed massive amounts of people. The Salt Lick is definitely worth a visit.

In addition to BBQ, you have to have tex mex while in Austin. Here area few of my favorite dishes and restaurants to dine at.
Guero’s Taco Bar on South Congress. Here you will find a delicious selection of tacos and margaritas.

Across the street from Guero’s is wide variety of food trucks. I highly suggest you stop at Hey Cupcake for dessert!

If a strong margarita is what you are in the mood for, check out Trudy’s and their Mexican martini. Warning, they will cut you off at 2.
If you have never had migas, you have to go to Cisco’s and try their migas (scrambled eggs, tortilla chips, salsa and peppers) fajitas! Delicious and definitely worth trying! They also have delicious biscuits with honey butter!

For a large breakfast taco, go to Juan in a Million! Their chips and salsa and famous Don Juan taco will leave you leaving full and happy.

If you like food trucks, you have to make a visit to Torchy’s and Man Bites Dog in the South Austin Trailer Park Eatery

If you aren’t in the mood for tex-mex or BBQ and just want a great breakfast? Try Magnolia Cafe. Their blueberry cornmeal pancakes are amazing!

With so many places to eat in Austin, I hope this can help you decide. There are many more great places that I have yet to try, so if you have some suggestions, leave a comment and I will add them to the list! Game day in Austin is great, but t his amazing city has a whole lot to offer outside the stadium as well. Friday before the game, check out all the food and fun Austin has to offer!
