When traveling, I loving visiting iconic campus restaurants. While Atlanta is a little too big to be considered a college town, there is one restaurant that you should make a trip to when in town for a Georgia Tech Game. The Varsity.

The Varsity first opened its doors in 1928 and since then has grown into the world’s largest fast food drive in. For decades folks in the Atlanta have enjoyed their burgers, chili dogs and onion rings. There are now several other Varsity locations throughout Georgia (even at GT’s rival UGA in Athens), but the original is still located at 61 North Ave right across the street from Georgia Tech’s campus. Here are a few stats from The Varsity’s website

The Varsity is huge! It can fit 600 cars and 800 people inside.

On game day as many as 30,000 GT fans will visit throughout the day.

They cook a lot of food. Here are some numbers for you of what is cooked from scratch every daily.

-Two miles of hot dogs

-2,000 lbs of onions

-2,500 pounds of potatoes

-5000 fried pies

- 300 gallons of chili

My favorite meal is a chili cheese dog, onion rings, frosted orange, and a fried peach pie! On a hot game day in Atlanta, nothing will cool you off better than a frosted orange. It is a creamy and frosty mix of orange and vanilla flavor. It tastes like you are drinking a creamsicle.

Here is a visual to show how close The Varsity is to Bobby Dodd stadium. When sitting inside, you can see the upper deck. After the game, celebrate GTs victory with a trip to The Varsity. You won’t regret it.
